President receives warm welcome from Kolhufushi

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has received a warm welcome from Kolhufushi, Meemu Atoll. He arrived on the island with First Lady Fazna Ahmed to attend ceremonies to mark National Unity Day. The day is observed in remembrance of the spirit of national unity and solidarity shown by the people in the immediate aftermath of the devastating Indian Ocean Tsunami of 2004.

During his visit, President Solih unveiled a monument in memory of the lives lost in the tragic incident 18 years ago. The president and the first lady also attended the official function to mark the occasion. They also joined hands with the island residents in a show of unity to celebrate the camaraderie displayed by Maldivians in the face of the 2004 tragedy.

During the visit, President Solih will also meet with the members of the Kolhufushi Island Council and Women’s Development Committee (WDC).
