Maldives Inland Revenue Authority (MIRA) will stop collecting the annual vehicle and vessel fees starting from January 1, 2023. MIRA will also stop accepting payments for fines issued for parking and traffic violations.
The Ministry of Finance has established regulations that allow the local councils to accept the annual fees from the vehicles and vessels registered in their jurisdiction from January 1. As part of the change, the annual fees will be collected from the respective councils through a system prepared by the Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation.
The change is expected to increase the revenue of local councils as part of the government’s policy to empower local councils under the Decentralisation Act.
