Maldives Ports Limited (MPL) has assured that cargo ships traveling to the Maldives will not find it difficult to unload goods during the month of Ramadan.
Speaking to PSM News, the Terminal Manager Abdul Latheef Abdul Kareem noted that clearing goods during Ramadan is a difficult process due to the short time available. He acknowledged that a large number of goods are brought into the Maldives during Ramadan and therefore said MPL has hired more workers and procured vehicles to clear goods.
Furthermore, Latheef added that more equipment will also be procured and that workers are currently being trained to clear perishable goods. He expressed confidence that there would be no difficulty for cargo ships during Ramadan.
During previous months of Ramadan, MPL had lorries waiting to transport perishable goods during the arrival of cargo ships. Employees work non-stop from morning to midnight to unload the goods during Ramadan.
