Gov’t to formulate advisory committees on fisheries management

Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources, and Agriculture has opened the opportunity to apply for positions in three advisory committees for the management of tuna fishing, grouper fisheries, and marlin fishing.

Individuals interested in becoming members of the committees are required to submit their application by January 19. The fisheries ministry stated that the committee members will be tasked with submitting a management plan once a year to the minister as well as advising the minister on implementing regional and international standards and guidelines on fishing and exporting.

The advisory committee on tuna fishing will consist of three fishermen involved in tuna fishing, a representative of fish exporters, a representative of local fish sellers, and two representatives of fisheries organisations. The advisory committee on grouper fisheries will consist of three members involved in grouper fisheries, two representatives of grouper exports, and two representatives of local grouper sellers. The advisory committee on marlin fishing will consist of three fishermen involved in marlin fishing, two representatives of marlin processing companies, and a representative of a relevant organisation.
