Male' City Council (MMC) has launched a fundraising event to repair and renovate mosques in the city for the upcoming month of Ramadan.
Speaking at the opening ceremony of the two-day event held at Artificial Beach, the Mayor of Male’ City Dr. Mohamed Muizzu said that the government had given USD65,000 to the city council and more money was needed for the renovation of the mosques in the city. He said the city council's action plan has given top priority to the renovation of mosques in the city and needs both the help of the government as well as the public.
Additionally, Mayor Muizzu said that USD650,000 has already been spent on the renovation of mosques in the city. He said that there is still work to be done and the event is held to raise funds for the month of Ramadan. He said he was grateful for the public's support for such activities in the past.
Furthermore, Mayor Muizzu stated that those who wish to help can deposit funds into the council's account. Fund boxes were set up during the event, as well as online transfers and remittances through a portal developed by the city council.
Special activities for children will also be held during the event including face painting and various games. Funds will be accepted throughout the duration of the event.
