Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has completed the breakwater for the Kandu'oiy Giri Harbour Development project.
MTCC stated that 40% of the total project has now been completed. The scope of the project includes harbour dredging operations of 10,000cbm, channel dredging operations of 10,000cbm, construction of a 125m quay wall, a 265m breakwater, a 63m revetment, and installation of harbour pavement, harbour lights, and navigational lights.
Ministry of Fisheries, Marine Resources and Agriculture contracted MTCC to undertake the harbour development project in Kandu Oiy Giri in May 2022. The state-owned company is required to complete the project within 365 days at a cost of USD2.3 million.
Kandu'oiy Giri is an island in Kaafu Atoll assigned for the operations of the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company Limited (MIFCO). The harbour development project aims to ensure that the fishing vessels using the harbour facilities on the island will be able to safely dock alongside the harbour to attain services from the MIFCO facility.
