President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated many rights related to the education sector have been ensured with the Education Act enacted by his administration. He made the remarks speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Feydhoo School in Addu City.
During the ceremony, President Solih spoke about the administration's significant milestones in the education sector. He said the administration started implementing the country's first-ever Education Act in 2021 and introduced a satellite school system. He added that the administration ensured substantial pay raises for education sector staff, introduced special duty allowances, and facilitated training programmes for teachers and principals.
Furthermore, President Solih also spoke about the efforts to educate children and develop human resources across the country. He emphasised the success of the free degree programme, the reduction of administrative fees for student loans, and extending student loan repayment duration by 25%.
In his speech, President Solih noted the government is giving top priority to the upbringing of skilled people into society, adding that it is working to ensure every school leaver learns a skill to earn their own income. He described the production of skilled and self-sufficient youth as something that will see a positive change in the entire country.
In conclusion, President Solih revealed the administration aims to ensure inclusive education for all children in every atoll and island. He also announced the administration would soon launch the project to develop a new school building. Stating that the administration introduced higher secondary education in all atolls last year, he described it as a historical achievement in education sector development.
