Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has stated that the practical work of the Faresmaathoda Airport will be completed in February and another three airports will be handed over to the government in August.
The government is currently working on the construction of Faresmaathoda Airport in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, Muli Airport in Meemu Atoll, Magoodhoo Airport in Faafu Atoll, and Alifushi Airport in Raa Atoll. MTCC has also been awarded the development of the Maafaru International Airport in Noonu Atoll.
Speaking to PSM News, Chief Operating Officer (CEO) Adam Azim said the construction of airports in Hoarafushi in Haa Alifu Atoll, Funadhoo in Shaviyani Atoll and Maavarulu in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, has been completed under the administration of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih. He said that five airports are already under construction and Faresmaathoda Airport will be handed over to the government in February. He also said the airport development projects in Magoodhoo, Alifushi and Muli will also be completed and handed over to the government by August or September.
The government is also preparing to reclaim land for the development of three more airports. In addition, Hanimaadhoo International Airport in Haa Dhaalu Atoll and Kadhdhoo Airport in Laamu Atoll are being developed to international standards.
