Maldives and India commit to furthering cooperation in priority areas

The Maldives and India have committed to furthering cooperation in priority areas. The official discussions were held during a meeting with the Maldivian Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and the Indian Minister of External Affairs Dr. Subrahmanyam Jaishankar in Manadhoo, Noonu Atoll.

During the meeting, Minister Shahid and Minister Jaishankar had comprehensive, in-depth, and candid communication, reflecting on the historic relationship between both countries, and expressed commitment to furthering cooperation in priority areas. Additionally, they noted the successful economic cooperation and the progress of projects that are being implemented under Indian grant assistance and line of credit schemes. They also exchanged views and shared their visions relating to development cooperation, tourism cooperation, human resource development, multilateral engagements, and consular affairs between both countries.

Furthermore, Minister Shahid expressed gratitude to the government of India for the constant support to facilitate and further develop economic, trade, and investment ties between both countries, and for the commitment in the socioeconomic development of the Maldives.
