President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured the development of Bilehfahi Airport will have begun by his next visit. He made the remarks while addressing a campaign gathering held with members of the main ruling Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) in Kanditheemu, Shaviyani Atoll.
Speaking at a campaign event, President Solih said funding has been secured for the development of Bilehfahi Airport and that the project is in the tendering stage, assuring that fieldwork will begin soon. He also said that atolls cannot be developed without connecting islands and that building an interconnected travel system is one of the most important policies of the administration.
Furthermore, President Solih said he is pleased to see that the Raajje Transport Link (RTL) high-speed ferry service is beneficial to the residents of Shaviyani Atoll. He said the Kanditheemu constituency was previously ignored but that the policy of his administration is to bring equitable development to all islands. He added that the administration has spent USD11 million on the development of Kanditheemu over the past four years.
