Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid and Indian Minister of External Affairs Subrahmanyam Jaishankar have inaugurated the Foakaidhoo Community Centre.
The Foakaidhoo Community Centre was built with USD325,000 of Indian grant assistance, which seeks to empower local councils and inspire togetherness among local communities. It is the 21st project to be completed under the USD6.9 million grant assistance.
Speaking at the inauguration ceremony, Minister Shahid thanked India for its assistance and said the community centre will strengthen social bonds in Faikadhoo, Shaviyani Atoll. He noted that the island council can also use the centre as a venue for meetings and seminars.
Also at the ceremony, Minister Jaishankar said the community centre is proof of the close bilateral relations between the Maldives and India. He highlighted that India has provided assistance for 45 projects in 36 islands of the Maldives.
The Foakaidhoo Community Centre is a two-storey building with a club office, meeting, room, library, conference hall, and secretariat office.
