Projects will not halt over change in political leanings: President

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has assured that changes to political leanings will not result in a halt to developmental projects.

At a campaign rally in Thinadhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll, President Solih highlighted the work being done to solve the challenges faced by fishermen and for the development of the fishing industry in Thinadhoo. He said the government is conducting projects, including the development of a cold storage facility, with the assistance of the State Trading Organisation (STO) and the Maldives Industrial Fisheries Company (MIFCO).

Speaking at the rally, President Solih assured that there would be no situation in which the projects would be halted and that every branch of the government will work tirelessly to implement its policies to provide job opportunities and develop fisheries and other sectors. He also said that USD14 million has been spent on the development of Thinadhoo in the past four years and that the construction of the jetty on the island is expected to cost USD1.1 million.

Additionally, a 25-tonne fish canning factory is being developed on a 230,000sqft of land at Thinadhoo’s industrial zone. The project includes the development of a 1,500-tonne cold storage facility.
