Spain-based contractor hired to develop hospitals in Gan, Gadhdhoo

Ministry of Health has hired Spain-based HOMT Espania to develop a 130-bed tertiary hospital in Gan, Laamu Atoll, and a 30-bed hospital in Gadhdhoo, Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll.

The agreements were signed by Minister of State for Health Ahmed Adhil and Chief Executive Director of HOMT Espania Eduardo Oliveira. HOMT Espania is tasked with establishing and operationalising a hospital in Gadhdhoo and a fully equipped, climate resilient regional hospital with tertiary level healthcare services that can cater to the catchment population in Gan. The USD86 million project will be financed by Deutsche Bank.

The hospitals will be constructed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC). The Gan Tertiary Hospital and the Gadhdhoo Hospital are expected to be built within 36 months.
