New aircraft to be brought in for domestic flights in February: IASL

Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) has revealed the national airline, Maldivian, will be bringing in the last aircraft for domestic flights to the Maldives in February.

The national airline is bringing in two ATR 72s and one ATR 42 aircraft to renew its fleet for domestic flights. The ATR 72 has a seating capacity of 74 passengers and ATR 42 has a capacity of 50 passengers. The new aircraft will have low fuel consumption and low maintenance costs. The airline stated that two of the ATR 72 aircraft have now been brought into service. The first aircraft was put into service on January 21 and the second aircraft on January 22. The ATR 42 will be brought to the Maldives in February.

IASL stated that the last of the three aircraft will arrive in the Maldives in February from Toulouse, France. The national airline has also announced the acquisition of an Airbus aircraft for international flights. Maldivian currently has more than 23 aircraft in its fleet, including Airbus aircraft used for international flights, ATR and Dash model aircraft for domestic flights, and seaplanes.
