Housing Development Corporation (HDC) with the assistance of the Maldives Police Service (MPS) has commenced towing of illegally parked vehicles in Hulhumale'. HDC launched the project after a survey conducted in December 2022.
HDC is working to make Hulhumale' a safe and pleasant place for residents and visitors. The state-owned company conducted a survey on the complaints of illegally parked vehicles on the streets and vacant areas in Hulhumale' and found more than 400 such vehicles. There are 370 illegally parked vehicles in different areas in Hulhumale', according to the survey by HDC. In addition, 46 vehicles have been identified as damaged beyond repair. The vehicles being taken by HDC include cars, bicycles, pickups, vans, and a large number of heavy vehicles used in various construction and developmental project.
HDC occasionally cleans the streets and other public areas of Hulhumale' as part of its efforts to make the city less littered and safer for the public. However, it is the first time that HDC has carried out such an extensive removal of dilapidated and illegally parked vehicles in Hulhumale'.
