Addu City Council extends deadline for land plots in three islands

Addu City Council has decided to extend the deadline for submitting applications for land plots in three islands.

Addu City Council stated that no change has been made to the decision to allocate land despite the rumors circulating in the media. There were some media reports stating that the decision to allocate land in Addu had been cancelled. However, the council denied the rumours and said it had not changed its decision to allocate the land plots, adding some changes were made to the land application form due to confusion among the residents. The council said it has corrected some confusing issues in the form and resolved minor administrative issues.

The deadline for submitting applications for the land plots in Hulhudhoo, Meedhoo, and Feydhoo is open until February 28. In addition, the deadline for submitting applications for the land plots in Hithadhoo will be open until March 5. Applications will be accepted from 0900-1300hrs during the open period.

Addu City Council opened applications for 100 land plots in Hulhudhoo and Meedhoo, 350 plots in Feydhoo, and 300-400 plots in Hithadhoo. The plots will be designated from vacant land on the islands. Of these, 90% of the plots will be allocated to the residents of the island and 10% of the plots will be allocated to residents of other islands. The announcement was made on January 24, 2022.

It has been over 20 years since land plots have been given out in Addu, the second-largest city in the Maldives. There are many residents who are in need of their own land to build houses. The council said more than 3,000 individuals are expected to apply for the opening. In addition, nearly 1,000 applications were submitted for the latest 27 housing units in Addu.
