Gov't to digitalise driving licenses from February 5

Ministry of Transport and Civil Aviation has decided to introduce digital driving licenses for road vehicles in the Maldives from February 5.

In effort to provide efficient and easy services, the ministry is preparing to introduce a new digital license on February 5. This is an important part of the newly designed portal by the ministry. With this, the digital license displayed in the Maldives Police Service (MPS) mobile application will be considered as the license of the driver and if the license.

The ministry temporarily suspended all licensing services from January 29 to February 4 in order to introduce digital licenses. The arrangement was made to roll out the road vehicle driving license service and data migration among the services included in the software developed by the ministry. With this change in the road vehicle license service, the days of spending time in queues and filling out paper forms are gone and license applications and all work will then be done digitally. Also, licenses will be issued digitally.

In addition, the change will also reduce the cost of printing road licenses. Instead of issuing a plastic card, an environmentally friendly solution will be available by issuing licenses digitally. The ministry also said that individuals who wish to keep their license cards will be able to print them.

The transport ministry provides important services to the public, especially vehicle registration and licensing services are being sought by hundreds of individuals daily. The ministry aims to improve the quality of services it provides. The public has to spend time in long queues to get services from government offices. Providing easy and fast services is an important policy of the government of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih.
