Regional Airports Company Limited has announced it is seeking to recruit employees for the Faresmaathoda Airport in Gaafu Dhaalu Atoll set to open in February.
The state-owned company announced the recruitment of 45 employees for 15 positions at the airport. The job opportunities include airport manager, operations officer, admin staff, airport cleaning and garden maintenance, security agents, firefighters.
The government has decided to open the airport on February 15. The airport was developed by the Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) which is currently developing most of the domestic airports in the country. The airport, which was developed for domestic flights, has completed all major works and is currently undergoing the final works to bring it into operation. In addition, lights have been installed and tested for night flights at the airport.
MTCC was contracted to complete the project at a cost of about USD10 million. The project involved the development of a 1,200m runway, taxiway and apron, along with the construction of a terminal building and fire building.
MTCC has completed the development of the airport and is currently completing the practical work prior to its opening. As such, the company is preparing the airport for the test flight and has finished testing the radar at the air traffic control tower and the runway lighting system. Finishing work is also being done at the terminal, which is designed to look appealing with a modern aesthetic, in contrast to other domestic airports in the Maldives.
The airport was developed after reclaiming land in islands near Faresmaathoda. The project began in 2021 and aims to improve the travel system in the southern region and pave the way for the development of local businesses and increase job opportunities.
