Rasheed Carpentry and Construction Private Limited (RCC) has been contracted to complete the construction of 100 unfinished housing units in Kolhufushi, Meemu Atoll.
The agreement was signed by Director General of the Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure Ahmed Wishan Naseem and Director at RCC Adam Raheem. At the signing ceremony, Parliamentarian Ibrahim Naseer said that the project is a result of President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih pledging to complete the construction of the housing units during his visit to Kolhufushi. He also noted that housing units were built by the first administration of the Maldivian Democratic Party (MDP) after the tsunami disaster in 2004.
The construction of 100 housing units in Kolhufushi was first awarded to a contractor in 2019 and fieldwork commenced in February 2021. However, the project has been at a standstill since April 2022.
The project involves the construction of housing units with three rooms, three bathrooms, a sitting room, a kitchen, a laundry room, and a storeroom. RCC is tasked with completing the project within one year at a cost of USD7.6 million, which is included in the Public Sector Investment Programme (PSIP).
