Tourist arrivals increase by 31% with over 200,000 visits

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that over 200,000 tourists visited the Maldives so far this year, which is a 31% increase compared to the same period last year.

The latest statistics from the tourism ministry show that 214,985 tourists have visited the Maldives so far this year, which is a 31% increase compared to the 163,684 visits recorded in the same period last year.

The statistics show that 172,532 tourist arrivals were recorded in January and 31,922 tourist arrivals were recorded as of February 7. The tourism ministry is recording an average of 6,064 visits and tourists stay in the Maldives for an average of eight days.

The highest number of tourists are from Russia with 27,960 arrivals recorded so far this year. Meanwhile, 23,422 tourists have arrived from India and 20,513 tourists have arrived from Italy. The number of tourist arrivals from China has also been increasing after the country eased its COVID-19 restrictions. As such, China is currently the 8th top tourism market with 6,563 tourist arrivals.

The government aims to register 1.8 million tourist arrivals by the end of this year. Last year’s target of 1.6 million tourist arrivals was reached on December 20.
