Faresmaathoda Airport to allow night flights

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has revealed that Faresmaathoda Airport will be one of the few airports to be developed to allow nighttime flights. The airport will officially open on March 15.

Speaking to PSM News, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of MTCC Adam Azim said all major works of the airport have been completed. The construction of the administration building and building fences is currently underway.

Faresmaathoda Airport is being developed to cater to domestic flights. MTCC was contracted to complete the project at a cost of about USD10 million. The project involved the development of a 1,200m runway, taxiway, and apron, along with the construction of a terminal building and a fire building.

Meanwhile, the causeway connecting the airport area with Faresmaathoda is expected to be completed by May. The airport development project began in 2021 and aims to improve the transport system in the southern region and pave way for the development of local businesses and increase job opportunities.
