MTCC to complete laying asphalt upto STELCO in seven days

Maldives Transport and Contracting Company (MTCC) has begun laying asphalt on Ameenee Magu. MTCC expects to complete laying asphalt up to the building of State Electric Company Limited (STELCO) within seven days as part of the project.

Ameenee Magu is one of the busiest roads in Male’ City due to the high number of office buildings and schools and is one of the few roads that run across the length of the capital city. It also is the main network for utility services and connects the traffic to all areas of the city. However, the road has been in poor condition for years and causes difficulties for vehicles and pedestrians.

The redevelopment of Ameenee Magu was contracted to Road Development Corporation Limited (RDC) under the Male' Streetscaping Project. However, many challenges pertaining to leveling the roads were faced in completing the project within the scheduled period.

The modernisation of Ameenee Magu is carried out in 13 segments. The project involves paving the whole 1.79km length of Ameenee Magu with asphalt and installing a new stormwater drainage system. The project was contracted to RDC at a price of USD5.5 million.

RDC contracted MTCC to laying asphalt on Ameenee Magu as it has not been given a space for the machine brought to lay asphalt on Ameenee Magu.
