Pay Commission finalises new salary structure for health workers

The National Pay Commission has revealed that the new salary structure for health workers has been finalised prior to implementation.

At a meeting with the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions, the Secretary General of the National Pay Commission Dr. Mohamed Faizal noted that the salaries of teachers have been raised and the salaries of university and health sector workers are next. He said that discussions have been held with officials from the Ministry of Health, institutions in the health sector, organisations, and that the new salary structure for health workers has been finalised.

Additionally, Faizal noted that the health sector consists of 55 professions and that the new salary structure will include increments for all the professions even if they do not include Maldivians. He said the increments will result in more interest from Maldivians to work in more health professions.

President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has announced salaries in the health sector will be increased on May 1. He made the announcement while giving his Presidential Address at the Parliament of the Maldives. Minister of Health Ahmed Naseem has also assured that no health worker will be neglected in the government’s pay harmonisation efforts.
