The National Pay Commission has stated that the issue of teachers who achieved degrees not receiving a salary increment from their own schools will be solved by April.
At a meeting between the Parliamentary Committee on Independent Institutions and the pay commission, Vice President of the Civil Service Commission (CSC) Ibrahim Rasheed addressed the issue regarding teachers who achieved degrees not receiving a salary increment in their own school but being able to receive a hike when transferred to another school. He said that the issue can easily be resolved but that changes need to be made at the policy level, adding that the CSC is unable to make the necessary changes as the pay commission handles pay harmonisation.
Additionally, Rasheed said that the CSC holds talks with the pay commission and that a request has been made to formulate a list to solve the issue for teachers who achieved a degree before May 1, 2022. Other members of the CSC agreed that teachers should be able to receive a salary increment from their own school after achieving a degree.
However, Member of the National Pay Commission Afaaf Ibrahim Ali Didi said that setting a special condition for teachers to receive a salary increment is unfair to those in other professions. The pay commission assured that the issue will be discussed and a permanent solution put forth by April.
