Minister of Foreign Affairs Abdulla Shahid has discussed the progress in the implementation of the United Nations International Children's Emergency Fund (UNICEF) Country Programme Document in the Maldives. He held the discussion with the new UNICEF Representative to the Maldives Dr. Edward Addai after he presented his letter of appointment.
During the meeting, Minister Shahid and Addai discussed the role of UNICEF in the Maldives, in areas on child protection, maternal and child heath, immunisation, nutrition, pre and primary education and social inclusion. The discussion also highlighted the progress in the implementation of the UNICEF Country Programme Document, which supports the United Nations Sustainable Development Cooperation Framework (UNSDCF 2022-2026).
UNICEF has been instrumental, especially on the areas of protection of the rights of the child which is a key priority area of the Government of Maldives.
