Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has stated that the ministry will provide further loan opportunities for 120 students who had to postpone their studies after accepting loans.
At a press conference at the President’s Office, Minister Hassan said that many students had to postpone their studies for various reasons and that they now have the opportunity to apply for another loan. He said a special policy is in place to give them the opportunity to apply for 120 of the 270 new student loan applications. He also said that it is every student’s responsibility to repay their loans and that the government will take all measures necessary to collect the loan payments.
The ministry has set conditions for students who are applying for the top-up loans after postponing their studies under a previous loan for reasons beyond their control. They include being unable to progress in their studies after their programme was cancelled or they had to postpone their studies for health reasons or because the education centre made changes to the duration and cost of the programme.
The education ministry opened 270 student loan applications for sectors that are high in demand. Interested individuals are required to submit their application by March 15. The ministry will be evaluating and recommending changes for applications submitted this month.
