Himmafushi Island Council has decided to issue 288 land plots to residents from the reclaimed area in Himmafushi, Kaafu Atoll.
Himmafushi has a population of 1,200 residents with many families living under one roof. The council previously issued 38 land plots in 2013. Around 22 hectares of land was reclaimed in Himmafushi in 2015. The council also opened land plots in the reclaimed area in 2018 and 2019, and 450 applicants met the criteria. However, the issuance of the plots was cancelled and no plots were given out.
Himmafushi Island Council has once again decided to give out 288 land plots spanning 1,600sqft. Interested individuals are required to submit their applications from February 26 to April 19. The council stated that all the plots will be given out to residents to solve the housing issue on the island.
Additionally, Himmafushi Island Council stated that it has plans to open more land plots from the reclaimed land for bidding in the future and that the land plots have been designated in the land use plan for various businesses, industrial work, and guesthouses.
