A committee has been formed to provide land plots and flats to residents of Male' City.
The five-member Gedhoruveringe Committee consists of Chairperson Akram Kamaluddeen, Co-Chairperson Anas Abdul Sattar, Mariyam Nazima, Aishath Rasheeda, and Mohamed Arif. The responsibilities of the committee include monitoring the process of issuing land plots and flats as well as shortlisting the applicants. The first meeting was held on February 21.
The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure accepted applications through the Gedhoruverin Portal from June to September 2022. The ministry plans to give out 4,000 housing units under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme and 5,000 land plots under the Binveriyaa scheme, which includes 1,000 land plots from Hulhumale', 2,000 land plots from Gulhifalhu, and 2,000 land plots from Giraavaru. The ministry received over 20,000 applications for housing units under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme and over 15,000 applications for land plots under the Binveriyaa scheme.
President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has revealed his decision to provide over 5,000 land plots in the Greater Male' Region to the residents of the city in June and plans to provide more land plots. The government has begun cleaning and establishing utility services at the land plots in the Greater Male’ Region prior to publishing the list of recipients. Currently, Housing Development Corporation (HDC) is preparing the land plots in Hulhumale’. As such, workers are cleaning and leveling the areas while the relevant authorities establish utility services and make the final preparations to hand over the plots. HDC stated that each block will be no smaller than 1,250sqft and that the plots will be prepared before the list of recipients is published.
