Over 300,000 tourists arrive so far in 2023

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that more than 300,000 tourists have visited the Maldives so far in 2023.

As per the latest statistics released by the tourism ministry, 301,658 tourist arrivals visited the Maldives as of the February 20 which is an increase of 27.9% compared to 235,850 arrivals during the same period in 2022. Statistics show that the Maldives currently receives a daily average of 5,915 tourists. In addition, the statistics show that 172,500 tourist arrivals were recorded in January and 129,159 tourist arrivals were recorded as of February 20.

The Maldives received the highest number of tourist arrivals from Russia so far this year. As such, 38,539 tourists have arrived in the Maldives from Russia so far. Meanwhile, the second highest tourist arrivals are recorded from India with 33,001 arrivals and the third most arrivals are recorded from the United Kingdom (UK) with 28,307 arrivals.

The number of tourist arrivals from China has also been increasing after the country eased its COVID-19 restrictions. As such, China is currently the 8th top tourism market for the Maldives

The government aims to record 1.8 million tourist arrivals by the end of the year.
