Gov’t publishes regulations on spa operations

Ministry of Economic Development has published regulations on the operation, maintenance, and advertisement of spas in the Maldives.

The regulations state that employees at spas are not allowed to release personal photos, videos, or audio of the establishments. It also states that advertisements should fit the social and cultural standards of the country and should not include any person.

Additionally, the regulations dictate that new spa establishments will be required to reregister at the business portal of the economic ministry from February 21. The ministry has given spas already operating in the Maldives 90 days to reregister at the portal. Foreign workers will be evaluated on whether they have the proper permits to work at the establishments.

Any establishments that violate the regulations will be fined USD652. The registrar also has the authority to terminate the permits given to the establishments.
