Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has stated that all water and sewerage projects will be completed within the next three months.
Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director Hassan Shah said the projects awarded to the state-owned company are progressing at a fast pace. He said that five of the projects have been completed and are now in operation. In addition, he said water supply and sewerage systems established in Naifaru in Lhaviyani Atoll and Veymandoo in Thaa Atoll, were initiated by two companies during the previous administration and have since been completed by MWSC.
MWSC has been contracted to undertake water and sewerage projects in 20 islands across the Maldives. The contract was awarded to the company in November 2020 at a cost of USD90 million. The project includes water supply facilities and systems in 15 islands and sewerage systems in five islands. In addition, MWSC is also implementing water and sewerage projects in four other islands under the OPEC Fund for International Development (OFID).
