MWSC to relocate water production plant to Gulhifalhu

Male' Water and Sewerage Company (MWSC) has decided to relocate its water production plant to Gulhifalhu, Kaafu Atoll.

The water production plant is currently located in Hulhumale'. As such, the state-owned company produces 500ml and 1.5L of water bottles in the plant. However, MWSC manufactures reusable 5L bottles at the water production plant in Male' City. The plant is operated by Island Beverages Maldives Private Limited (IBM).

Speaking to PSM News, Managing Director of MWSC Hassan Shah said that drinking water production and storage in Male' requires a lot of space. He, however, said that the company is facing a severe space constraint with the increasing demand for water. He said that the amount of water bottles purchased in the Maldives increases during different periods. As such, he said the company decided to relocate the water production plant in Gulhifalhu to solve the space constraints and further expand production.

Additionally, Shah said production of various flavored beverages is also an important objective of the company's business expansion. MWSC has recently signed an agreement to establish a renewable energy water generation system in Gulhifalhu.
