President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih has stated that the country has not developed so far compared to its income due to development projects coinciding with elections. He made these remarks while speaking at the opening ceremony of the new office building for Fenaka Corporation Limited in Hirilandhoo, Thaa Atoll.
Speaking at the ceremony, President Solih said the dream of the people for the development of the island is becoming a reality. As such, he said there are many development projects being implemented in the island and the residents are confident that the projects will continue.
Additionally, President Solih noted that many basic services were not fulfilled in many islands. Among them, he said water, sewerage, education, health and sanitation are in short supply in various islands, adding that these projects have not been implemented because the previous administrations were only initiating developmental projects for elections. As such, he said his government has currently changed the culture of implementing projects for elections. Instead, he said his government's vision is to develop the Maldives and prioritise providing services needed by the public.
In conclusion, President Solih noted that the biggest obstacle to the development of fisheries and fibre activities is the lack of basic services in Hirilandhoo. He also said the government is implementing the projects with a plan to provide the services needed by the public without any major changes for the next 50 years.
