Gov't prioritises training skilled workers for development

Minister of Higher Education Dr. Ibrahim Hassan has stated that the government has prioritised training skilled workers for national development. He made the remark while speaking as the chief guest at the Skilled Certificate Awarding Ceremony of the Maldives Institute of Technology (MIT).

Speaking at the function, Minister Hassan said MIT plays an important role in developing skilled workers and that the government’s focus on technical and vocational education and training (TVET) became apparent after the wage increase for employees at the Maldives Polytechnic Institute. He also said the government will soon provide opportunities for students to further their education in vocational training.

Additionally, Minister Hassan highlighted that vocational training uses mathematics, physics, and the sciences to solve everyday problems. He said that the government aims to provide students in vocational training the opportunity to achieve degree-level certificates, adding that more respect needs to be accorded to TVET.
