Waste management programmes to be conducted in Fuvahmulah

Fuvahmulah City Council has signed a contract with Ministry of Environment, Climate Change and Technology, Waste Management Corporation Limited (WAMCO) and the Fuvahmulah Women's Development Committee (WDC) to raise public awareness on waste management. The agreement was signed by Deputy Minister Mohamed Ansar, Mayor Ismail Rafiq and President of WDC Mariyam Diyana.

Under the programme, a two-day Train of the Trainer (TOT) session will be conducted for all WDC members. The sessions will cover the Waste Management Act, safe waste management and efforts to reduce single-use plastics in the Maldives. In addition, a session on the waste management system in the island and the work being done by WAMCO will also be carried out.

During the TOT sessions, a practical training session on how to visit households and convey information will also be given to the members. After the TOT sessions, the members will prepare a special plan to provide door-to-door information to households in Fuvahmulah.
