The Maldives and Seychelles have expressed optimism about further strengthening relationship between both countries and finding ways to collaborate internationally. The statement was made during a meeting between President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih and President Wavel Ramkalawan. The meeting was held on the sidelines of the 5th United Nations (UN) Conference on the Least Developed Countries (LDCs). President Solih is in Doha, Qatar, to attend the conference.
During the meeting, President Solih and President Ramkalawan discussed various topics at the meeting, including climate change and tourism. They discussed efforts to restore tourism to pre-pandemic levels, as well as working together in the international arena on issues of mutual interest, such as climate change, and playing a more prominent role in the Small Island Developing States (SIDS) and as members of the Alliance of Small Island States (AOSIS).
The Maldives and Seychelles established diplomatic relations on July 1, 1980.
