Maldives committed to work with Germany for welfare of citizens

The Maldives has reaffirmed its commitment to continue working with Germany for the common welfare of the citizens. The remark was made by President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih while speaking at a meeting with Honorary Consul General Christian von Stetten and Honorary Consul of the Maldives in Germany Andreas Peter Witte.

At the meeting, President Solih extended his appreciation to Honorary Consul General Stetten and Honorary Consul Witte for their efforts to promote the Maldives and foster diplomatic connections between the two countries. They also discussed ways to strengthen relations between the two countries further.

Expressing eagerness to explore possible opportunities to increase trade and investments between the two countries, President Solih requested Honorary Consul General Stetten and Honorary Consul Witte lobby through their connections to waive the 24% tariff imposed on Maldivian fisheries exports. The meeting was concluded by reaffirming their commitment to continue working together for the common welfare of the citizens of both countries.

The Maldives established diplomatic relations with Germany on July 5, 1966.
