The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has stated that the final list of recipients of the flats and land plots in the Greater Male’ Region will be published in May. Minister of State Akram Kamaluddeen made the remark in response to a resolution proposed by Parliamentarian Ali Azim, urging the administration to quickly solve the housing crisis in Male’ City.
The resolution states that the administration has been slow in solving the issue despite pleas from the residents of Male’. It also accuses the administration of not carefully planning the housing projects.
Speaking to PSM News, State Minister Akram, who is the Chairperson of the committee responsible for providing land plots and flats to residents of Male', said that the administration is working on providing land plots and flats efficiently and in accordance with its plan. He assured that the final list of recipients will be published in May to fulfill President Ibrahim Mohamed Solih’s pledge.
The planning ministry accepted applications through the Gedhoruverin Portal from June to September 2022. The ministry plans to give out 4,000 housing units under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme and 5,000 land plots under the Binveriyaa scheme, which includes 1,000 land plots from Hulhumale', 2,000 land plots from Gulhifalhu, and 2,000 land plots from Giraavaru. The ministry received over 20,000 applications for housing units under the Gedhoruveriyaa scheme and over 15,000 applications for land plots under the Binveriyaa scheme.
