Tourist arrivals increase by 23.8%

The Ministry of Tourism has revealed that over 400,000 tourists visited the Maldives so far this year, which is a 23.8% increase.

Statistics from the tourism ministry show that 440,059 tourists visited the Maldives as of March 15, which is a 23.8% increase compared to the 355,433 tourist arrivals recorded in the same period last year. The highest number of tourists arrived from Russia with 54,527 arrivals, while 47,462 visited from India, 41,126 visited from the United Kingdom (UK), and 39,919 visited from Italy.

Additionally, tourist arrivals from China have been increasing. China was the top source market until the country closed its borders during the COVID-19 pandemic. Chinese tourists began visiting the Maldives again this year after the country re-opened its borders. A total of 12,934 tourists have arrived from China so far this year and the country is currently the eighth top source market.

The statistics also show that the Maldives is recording a daily average of 6,683 tourist arrivals, and February saw the highest monthly tourist arrivals in the past five years. In addition, the government achieved its target of 1.6 million tourist visits in 2022 and aims to achieve 1.8 million tourist visits this year.
