The government has decided to hold the Inter-school Singing Competition after an eight-year hiatus.
The Inter-school Singing Competition will be held by Public Service Media (PSM) in collaboration with Ministry of Education, Ministry of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment, and the National Centre for the Arts (NCA). The competition was last held in 2015.
The agreement was signed by Managing Director of PSM Ali Khalid, Minister of Education Dr. Aishath Ali, Minister of Youth, Sports and Community Empowerment Ahmed Mahloof, and Minister of Arts, Culture, and Heritage Yumna Maumoon on behalf of the NCA.
Speaking at the agreement signing ceremony, Minister Mahloof said that parents and students have been eagerly anticipating the return of the singing competition. He assured that the ministry will give its full support to provide opportunities for young singers to showcase their talents.
Furthermore, Managing Director of PSM Khalid said that the new edition of the competition will be better than the previous ones as the event will be held in collaboration with multiple ministries. He also said that PSM aims to provide such opportunities to all talents.
Speaking to PSM News, Minister Aishath said that schools are a place for students to hone their talents and that the singing competition is an opportunity for students who are interested in singing, poetry, and music in general. In addition, Minister Yumna highlighted the importance of cultivating talent at an early age and said many musicians have come out of the Inter-school Singing Competition.
The education ministry stated that the singing competition is open to all schools. The competition will be held from June 16-24 and will be split into six age groups between 6-19.
