Gov’t begins distributing dates donated by Saudi Arabia

The Ministry of Islamic Affairs has begun distributing the 50 tonnes of dates donated by Saudi Arabia.

The Islamic ministry stated that the dates will be distributed at the ministry’s lobby from 0930hrs to 1200hrs on working days until April 6. Each household registered to the list of poor and needy will receive one packet and the rest of the dates will be distributed to the rest of the households, with 26 packets to be distributed to every 100 households.

The Islamic ministry will distribute dates to households in Male’ City, Villimale’, and Hulhumale’ while the respective local councils will distribute the donations in the atolls based on the list of households submitted to the ministry in 2023. Individuals are advised to bring their identification (ID) card when they arrive to receive the dates.

The government of Saudi Arabia donated 50 tonnes of dates to the Maldives on March 21. At a ceremony, Ambassador of Saudi Arabia to the Maldives Matrek Abdullah Al-Ajalin Aldosari handed over the donation to Minister of Islamic Affairs Dr. Ahmed Zahir. The government of Saudi Arabia donates dates to the Maldives each year for the month of Ramadan.
