RDC contracted to develop Ihavandhoo roads

The Ministry of National Planning, Housing and Infrastructure has contracted Road Development Corporation (RDC) to develop the major roads of Ihavandhoo, Haa Alifu Atoll. The agreement was signed by the Director General of the planning ministry Fatimath Shana Farooq and the Chief Financial Officer at RDC Yasir Hassan.

The scope of the project includes asphalt laying on 6.9km of road, installation of a drainage system, and installation of street lights. The project was contracted to RDC to be carried out on a design and build basis at a price of USD6.6 million and is tasked to be completed within 18 months.

Ihavandhoo is the second largest island in the atoll with a population of around 3,000 people. Improving the condition of the roads of the island is a pledge of the government.

RDC is currently conducting road development projects in 17 islands. RDC is also working on the modernisation of Ameenee Magu, one of the main roads connecting all the wards of the capital Male' City.
