Gov’t urges Umrah pilgrims to adhere to policies

Ministry of Islamic Affairs has urged Maldivians to adhere to the relevant policies when they travel to Saudi Arabia for the Umrah pilgrimage.

The government of Saudi Arabia has decided to allow pilgrims to complete one Umrah pilgrimage during the month of Ramadan and has instructed pilgrims to refrain from taking photos or indulging in behaviour that is unrelated to the pilgrimage.

In a press release, the Islamic ministry urged Maldivians to adhere to the policies and instructions issued by the government of Saudi Arabia during their Umrah pilgrimage. The ministry also requested individuals scheduled to travel to Saudi Arabia to book their appointments using the relevant mobile applications. It further details the areas in Mecca that are reserved for Umrah-related rituals and prayers.

Additionally, the ministry advised Maldivians to adhere to the policies in place for the safety and convenience of pilgrims when in Saudi Arabia, as authorities will monitor and take action over behaviour that violates the spirit of the Umrah pilgrimage.
