Minister of National Planning, Housing, and Infrastructure Mohamed Aslam has stated that some of the 4,000 housing units being developed in Hulhumale’ Phase II are nearing completion. He made the remark while responding to questions at the Parliament of the Maldives.
At the Parliament, Minister Aslam said some of the housing units have been constructed and are undergoing finishing works. He also said that the apartments will be given to tenants without furniture and that furniture was placed inside the mock-up apartments as a showcase.
In September 2021, Fahi Dhiriulhun Corporation Limited (FDC) signed the loan agreements for the construction of 4,000 new housing units with two Indian companies. As such, 2,000 housing units are developed by NBCC India Limited, and another 2,000 housing units are developed by JMC Projects (India) Limited. A total of 32 towers that are 17 or 18 storeys high are being developed as part of the project.
Additionally, FDC has prepared two mock-up apartments to showcase what they will look like when completed. The units are located in the 12th tower being constructed by JMC. The units consist of two three-bedroom units and are equipped with household appliances, furniture, and other items.
FDC has stated that 13 of the towers, which consist of 1,600 housing units, will be completed by August this year while the whole project is expected to be completed by August 2024. The apartments will consist of two-bedroom and three-bedroom units. The two-bedroom units will have an area of 650sqft, while the three-bedroom units will have 900sqft.
