IASL commences service with new aircraft

Island Aviation Services Limited (IASL) has announced that it has begun service with its new aircraft.

The new ATR42 aircraft began its commercial service by transporting 26 passengers from Velana International Airport (VIA) to Kadhdhoo Airport.

The aircraft was brought in as part of efforts to renew the fleet of the national airline, Maldivian, by next year. IASL stated that eight aircraft will be needed to renew the fleet, which will be the biggest achievement in the company's history. The company stated that the current aircraft are more than 20 years old and the maintenance fees are expensive, adding that the new aircraft will greatly reduce the cost of maintenance.

IASL earlier brought two ATR-72 aircraft and one ATR-42 aircraft which are currently in service. In addition, IASL announced the acquisition of an Airbus aircraft for international flights. IASL currently has more than 23 aircraft in its fleet, including Airbus aircraft used for international flights, ATR and Dash model aircraft for domestic flights, and seaplanes.
