Maldives joins OIC in condemning Israel’s storming of Al-Aqsa Mosque

The Maldives has joined the Organisation of Islamic Corporation (OIC) in condemning the storming of the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli forces. The Maldives participated in the extraordinary open-ended meeting of the Executive Committee of the OIC to respond to the continued aggression by Israel on the Al-Aqsa Mosque.

In the final communique adopted at the meeting, OIC condemned in the strongest terms the dangerous escalation by Israeli forces by repeatedly storming the Al-Aqsa Mosque and compound during the holy month of Ramadan. It also paid tribute to the steadfast Palestinians in the city of Jerusalem and affirmed the sovereignty of the Palestinian people over Jerusalem and all its holy places.

Additionally, the final communique called on the OIC member states to take urgent action to address the attacks and activate the mechanisms stipulated in its relevant resolutions to move at all levels and send urgent messages to the concerned international bodies, including the United Nations Security Council (UNSC), reflecting the OIC positions in this regard. It also reaffirmed the importance of continuing coordination and cooperation among the OIC, the League of Arab States, and the African Union to protect the occupied city of Al-Quds against systematic Israeli policies and attacks. It further called on the ambassadors of the OIC member states to act and convey the contents of the communique to the capitals of influential countries around the world.

The position of the Maldives in regard to the Israeli-Palestinian conflict is for reaching a comprehensive agreement on a two-state solution, with the establishment of an independent and sovereign State of Palestine, based on the 1967 borders and with East Jerusalem as its capital.
