HPA urges to take precaution due to increase in COVID-19, flu cases

Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged the public to take precautions due to the increase in cases of COVID-19 and flu in the Maldives.

HPA stated that the number of reported cases of COVID-19 is increasing again after a decline in the recent months. In addition to COVID-19, dengue fever and other diseases are likely to spread.

HPA has advised the public to take precautionary measures while travelling for the holidays and to test for COVID-19 if they show signs of illness. The health agency has urged individuals with symptoms of the flu to seek medical assistance before the disease worsens, to wash hands and use sanitiser, wearing masks that cover the nose and mouth, and maintaining distance when in crowded areas. HPA also urged those who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to complete the booster dose.

HPA also pointed out the precautions that public transport service providers should take to control the spread of COVID-19 and flu. These include providing hand sanitiser in the vehicle, cleaning the areas passengers touch as they get out of the vehicle and drivers wearing masks for personal protection.
