Health Protection Agency (HPA) has stated that COVID-19 vaccinations are now available to children aged five and above. HPA urged individuals to vaccinate their children to help reduce the spread of COVID-19 among children and the community.
HPA has begun providing the Pfizer vaccine to children aged 5-11 at vaccination centres in Male’ City and the atolls. The health protection agency stated that the Maldives Technical Advisory Group on Immunisation has approved the Pfizer vaccine for children aged five and above. In the Greater Male’ Region, the vaccines are available at Indhira Gandhi Memorial Hospital (IGMH), Hulhumale’ Hospital, and Dhamana Veshi.
In late 2022, the government of the United States (US) donated 99,000 doses of COVID-19 vaccines to the Maldives, including Moderna and Pfizer. The statistics show that 399,000 individuals have received the first dose under the Maldives COVID-19 vaccination programme, while 385,000 received the second dose, and 17,000 received boosters.
