Tourist arrivals increased to nearly 600,000 so far in 2023

Ministry of Tourism has revealed that the number of tourist arrivals to the Maldives so far in 2023 has reached nearly 600,000, which is a 20% increase compared to the same period last year.

Statistics from the tourism ministry show that 592,605 tourists arrived to the Maldives as of the April 12 which is a 20% increase compared to the 493,878 tourist arrivals during the same period last year. As such, the number of tourists visiting the Maldives has reached nearly 600,000 with a daily average of 5,810 tourist arrivals.

The statistics show that the total number of arrivals in January was 172,499 tourists, 177,915 in February, 173.514 in March, and 68,677 until April 12. The largest number of tourists visited from Russia with 71,989 arrivals, while 62,415 tourists visited from India, and 58,584 visited from the United Kingdom (UK), 50,576 visited from Italy, and 44,797 visited from Germany. In addition, a total of 1,231 tourist establishments are open in the Maldives, consisting of 60,514 beds. They include resorts, hotels, guesthouses, and liveaboards.

The tourism ministry aims to record 1.9 million tourist visits this year, between last year’s record of 1.6 million visits.
