Health Protection Agency (HPA) has urged the public to take precautions against the spread of fever, flu, and COVID-19 due to the increasing number of cases in the Maldives.
The latest statistics published by HPA showed that the spread of fever, flu, and COVID-19 in the country has increased significantly. A total of 148 individuals tested positive for COVID-18 from April 9-15. There are 100 reported cases of COVID-19 in the Greater Male' Region, according to the statistics.
HPA stated that it is the first time the numbers have been so high after a decline in recent months. However, the number of cases in the country has been increasing since March. A total of 28 patients are currently being treated in hospitals. HPA also stated that the increase in the number of people admitted to the hospital will affect the entire health system.
HPA has urged individuals with symptoms of the flu to seek medical assistance before the disease worsens, to wash hands and use sanitiser, to wear masks that cover the nose and mouth, and maintain distance when in crowded areas. HPA also urged those who are eligible to receive the COVID-19 vaccine to complete the booster dose.
HPA also pointed out the precautions that public transport service providers should take to control the spread of flu and COVID-19. These include providing hand sanitiser in the vehicle, cleaning the areas passengers touch as they get out of the vehicle and drivers wearing masks for personal protection.
